Construction of a new taxiway to aid in movement around the airport and provided a wash rack. A new remote overnight (RON) parking lot and cargo ramp and a new taxilane to service them were designed and rehabilitation of a major north-south midfield taxiway. Along with the standard items, these projects had to be closely coordinated to minimize impact to operations and included demolition of existing cargo and office buildings, and partial demolition and remodel of one cargo building. A large fill was constructed after geotechnical investigation and a perimeter security fence had to be installed to incorporate the added airside area. GCW was a subconsultant to Kennedy/Jenks providing site and building demolition for all structures, along with survey services for the entire project. Project was broken into 4 phases based on building demolition and construction phasing.
Phase 1 – National Airlines Building Demolition – GCW was responsible for the
entire construction package.
Phase 2 – East Lot Aircraft Parking Expansion, GCW was responsible for Distribution
Building demolition plans.
Phase 3 – East Lot Aircraft Parking Expansion, GCW was responsible for Cargo
Building 2 demolition plans.
Phase 4 – East Lot Aircraft Parking Expansion, GCW was responsible for Cargo
Building 1 demolition plans, and Cargo Building 3 partial demolition
and remodel plans. Cargo Building 1 demolition work was completed,
and Cargo Building 3 demolition/remodel and aircraft parking
expansion was shelved.
