As a subconsultant, GCW prepared preliminary and final design plans for the reconstruction of the west 25 acres of Lorenzi Park. GCW services included parking lot design, hydrology study and storm drain design, water and sewer infrastructure for proposed restrooms, and structural engineering design. Project included improved pedestrian continuity and access throughout the project area, removing existing outdated facilities in preparation for constructing enhanced/ improved facilities, and constructing new amenities to provide a safer and more enjoyable experience for all park users. The site will incorporate three lighted full-size basketball courts, numerous shade areas for picnics and group gatherings, post-and-rail fence around the west portion of the park, one new parking lot, site grading, pedestrian paths, fire access road, retaining walls, dry stream bed, pedestrian bridges, and a new restroom facility and pump house. Park includes a specially designed water play area that features a splash pad and a playground. A trail system was designed to link the various park amenities. The concrete walking paths included stairs as well as ramps to meet ADA requirements and to facilitate maintenance and fire truck access. The existing boat house, Sammy Davis Jr. Festival Pavilion, Garden Club building, Nevada State Museum, adaptive recreation center, and the Derfelt Senior Center will be incorporated into the proposed improvements.
